The work
The work began with literacy and has expanded into the conditions that shape learning: identity, agency, power, relationships, and the environments we create together.
Across classrooms, curriculum leadership, professional learning, and school leadership, Marissa's experience informs practical tools and frameworks for educators and the young people they serve.
Caring Authority is one part of this broader work. It asks how adults can understand power dynamics, combine structure and accountability with warmth and care, and stay in relationship with young people without relying on power struggles.
Literacy Without Labels asks educators to get curious about the reading rather than label the reader. Right Response and the other areas of work extend this attention to how we act, learn, and relate.
